The Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility received a 100% rating at the conclusion of a re-accreditation audit which was conducted in October, 2017. Three veteran correctional professionals representing the American Correctional Association (ACA) Commission on Accreditation for Corrections (CAC) conducted an extensive three-day inspection of the facility and reviewed policies and procedures governing the operational standards. More than 380 standards covering all aspects of correctional operations-- from security and physical plant to use of force; medical; programs; and food service were tested and reviewed.

Upon completion, the facility was awarded a three-year reaccreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA).

The Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility is the only ACA accredited facility in Rhode Island. It has been accredited by the ACA since 1995 and has consistently received high marks during each re-accreditation audit.

United States Department of Justice - United States Marshals Service Quality Assurance Review

The United States Department of Justice, United States Marshals Service (USMS) Operations Division, Quality Assurance Review (QAR), was conducted September 29 - October 1, 2020.

A team of six “subject matter experts” audited the facility based on the Federal Performance Based Detention Standards (FPBDS). The FPBDS standards are designed to ensure the safe, secure, and humane confinement of United Marshal Service (USMS) detainees.

During the three-day review, the QAR team reviewed relevant policies, procedures, related documentation. Additionally, the team conducted numerous interviews with correctional officers, supervisors, management and other facility staff as well as with detainees .  The team toured throughout the facility and observed daily operations including formal counts, visitation, recreation, meal servings, and the provision of health care services.

Employee interviews revealed professionalism and quick responsiveness to the review team's request for information.

The Facility received an overall rating of "Satisfactory".

The USMS defines the ‘Satisfactory" rating as follows: “Performance meets contractual requirements.  The contractual performance of the element or sub-element contains some minor problems for which corrective action is taken by the contractor appear or were satisfactory.  To justify a Satisfactory rating, there should have been only minor problems, or major problems the contractor recovered from without impact to the contract/order.  There should have been NO significant weaknesses identified.  The fundamental principle of assigning ratings is that contractors will not be evaluated with a rating lower than Satisfactory solely for not performing beyond the requirements of the contract/order".
