Security

The security and safety of detainees, correctional officers, staff and visitors are the prime concern of the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility.

The Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility is a modular-design, maximum security facility that was built from the ground up for operational efficiency and to meet the highest standards for correctional facilities.

Security begins with a full complement of extensively trained correctional officers deployed in a high staff to detainee ratio to assure direct supervision and management of all aspects of facility operations. New candidates undergo eight weeks of basic training, and then complete a forty (40) hour Field Training Officer (FTO) program. To maintain their professional proficiency, all officers are required to attend forty (40) hours of in-service training each year, in which they receive instruction on conflict resolution, interpersonal communication skills, direct supervision, and the latest correctional standards. Officers must be proficient in all written policies, post orders, emergency code procedures, and use of force.
