Attorney/Attorney's Agents Visitation Information

The following information is provided in an effort to accommodate Attorney’s, Attorneys Agents, Legal Representatives, or Legal Assistants as efficiently as possible. There may be occasions when visits may be delayed or interrupted due to an unforeseen situation within the facility. A staff member will inform you if such an event occurs so you may make alternative arrangements if required.

Advanced Calling. To expedite entrance for attorney/attorney’s agent or legal representatives/legal assistant’s visits, please call the facility Lobby Officer at 401-721-0337 prior to the visit. Attorney, Attorneys Agent, Legal Representative and Legal Assistant contact visits are held seven (7) days per week, between the hours of 9:00am and 9:00pm.

Facility Count Times. Facility count times are at 11:00am, 3:00pm and 6:30pm. The lunch meal is served between 12:20pm and 1:00pm and the evening meal is served between 5:20pm and 6:00pm. In addition, staff breaks are conducted between 11:00am and 12:30pm and 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Therefore, you may experience some delays during these time periods. Count times are in effect 30 minutes before the count and 30 minutes after count. Detainees will not be allowed to be taken out of their housing units during these time periods. If entrance is delayed more than 20 minutes, we encourage you to inquire as to the reason.

 

Visitor Dress Code. Visitors who do not adhere to the following dress code will not be permitted into the facility or they will be asked to leave the visitation area. The following clothing is NOT acceptable to be worn by visitors:

No clothing revealing the midriff, breast, genital, and/or buttock area. This includes but is not limited to: low cut crew neck garments, crop top garments, tank top garments, halter garments, tube top garments, off-the-shoulder garments, sleeveless garments, wrap around shirts, wrap around bottoms/dresses, muscle shirts, V-neck t-shirts, button down shirts, bathing suit garments, extremely distressed bottoms, breakaway bottoms, etc.


No transparent or visibly sheer clothing. This includes but is not limited to: mesh clothing, net clothing, chiffon clothing, basic t-shirts exposing under garments, etc.


No clothing designed to be worn tightly. This includes but is not limited to: spandex/stirrup clothing, leotards, bodysuits, athletic/yoga pants, body con style dresses (mid or maxi dresses included), fitted sweatpants, jeggings/leggings, dancewear, biker shorts, etc.


No shorts, skirts or dresses shorter than 3" above the knees. No slits on the front, back, or side of the garment that go 3" above the end of the garment.


No clothing with zippers that go the full length of the garment.


No clothing that is similar to that issued to a detainee or uniformed staff member.


No bare feet.


No jewelry (except one (1) wedding band, small stud style earrings, basic wrist watches, religious medallion, derma piercings, or medical alert jewelry).


No smart watches, fit bits, cellular devices, or any electronic device (unless authorized by the Programs Director).


No coats, jackets, puffy vests, hats (with the exception of religious headwear), scarves, gloves, earmuffs, cardigans, hooded clothing, jean jackets, or zip up outerwear. Weather appropriate items are to be stored in the facility provided lockers and not to be worn in the visitation area.


No gang related or offensive clothing.

Identification and Processing. It is our policy that all attorney/agent or legal representatives/legal assistant visits be accommodated in a timely manner. Visits will be processed upon completion of the Notification to Visitor/Request to Visit Detainee (form WN 50704). A valid driver’s license, as well as, a current bar association card (if applicable) must be presented at the time of check-in. You will then be instructed to record the following information into the attorney/legal representative logbook upon arrival: Date and time entering facility, name of attorney/agent or legal representatives/legal assistant, address, detainee’s information (name and ID number), signature, time entered, any unusual requests (i.e., tape recorders, etc.), time departed.

A token and designated attorney/legal representative locker will be provided to secure personal items not needed during the visit. All legal materials accompanying attorneys/agents or legal representatives/legal assistant’s into the visitation area will be searched by an officer. Said search will merely be to detect the presence of contraband. No legal material will be read. Electronic devices such as pagers, cell phones and smart watches are NOT permitted in the visitation area with the exception of laptop computers essential to attorney/client or legal representatives/client privileges. You are allowed to review with your client only the information regarding their case. Approval for the use of electronic devices must be obtained from the Programs Director prior to the visit. Wi-Fi connections to laptops must be turned off while in the visitation area unless previously approved.

After a successful metal detector screening, you will be allowed to enter the visitation area. Upon completion of the visit, the detainee will be removed from the visitation room, you will be allowed to exit. Attorneys and legal representatives will be required to log their exit time into the attorney log book, retrieve their identification from the Lobby Officer, and retrieve any items from the storage locker.

Law students, paralegals, legal assistants, or investigators working for you will only be permitted into the facility with prior written approval from you submitted to the Programs Director at least three (3) business days prior to the visit. Such letters must be on attorney’s law firm’s stationary and must include the following information: Agent’s full name, title, date of birth, and the name of the detainee they are authorized to visit. Interpreters will not be granted access to the contact visitation area without the attorney they assist being present. The agent must not be related to the detainee being visited, must not be on the detainee’s social visitation list, and not be a former detainee of this facility. If so, you must inform a staff member. *Paralegals and investigators are the only attorney agents permitted to meet with detainees without being accompanied by the representing attorney. Prior approval from the Programs Director is required.

All legal materials accompanying attorneys/agents into the secure portion of the facility shall be subjected to a search. Said search shall merely be to determine the presence of contraband and no legal material will be read during this search. The following items may be authorized into the facility upon inspection: locker key; handkerchief; wedding ring and/or wedding band; briefcase; case files; memo pads; writing utensils; paperclips/binder clips (provided they are NOT conveyed to detainee); items related to the detainee’s case; and, laptops and/or other electronic devices, as authorized by the Programs Director (evidence reviewing purposes only). Internet availability/access is strictly prohibited. If you need to provide your client with legal material, please notify the officer who will assist you with this process.

 

The following items are NOT permitted into the secure portion of the facility: hats, gloves, scarves; hooded clothing, outer coats or jackets (excluding suit/sport coats); money; pocketbooks; handbags; wallets; keys; pagers, cell phones, and smart watches; cords for authorized electronic equipment; any item that could jeopardize the safety or security of the facility, detainee or staff; or, any other items require the prior written approval of the Programs Director or higher authority.

Should an attorney/agent or legal representatives/legal assistant be denied entrance into the facility, you will be notified as to the reason. All attorneys, agent’s legal representatives or legal assistants are subject to the same policies and regulations governing visitors. The Warden will be notified if such action is necessary. If you are denied, you may ask to speak to a supervisor.
